中国台湾历史学家

蒲慕州蒲慕州

蒲慕州,1952年生,台湾大学历史系毕业,美国布朗大学埃及学研究所、约翰霍浦金斯大学近东研究所硕士,埃及学博士。 现任台湾“中央研究院”历史语言研究所研究员,台湾大学历史系兼职教授。著有《尼罗河畔的文采》、《墓葬与生死:中国古代宗教之省思》、《中国文化史》等。先后获得文学士(台湾大学,1975),哲学硕士(约翰霍普金斯大学,1978),博士(约翰霍普金斯大学, 1984);香港中文大学人文学科研究所比较古代文明研究中心主任、香港中文大学历史系学部主任(第二学期)、历史学讲座教授。

蒲慕州教授的专长是古代埃及史,中国古代宗教社会史,以及比较古代史。在来到香港之前,他曾在台北中央研究院及美国加州大学,哥仑比亚大学,葛林耐学院等地工作教学。他是少数能够从事埃及学及汉学研究的中国学者,近来亦致力于比较古代史的研究。在上述每一个范围内,他都已经有专书发表,中文方面如《墓葬与生死 -- 中国古代宗教之省思》, 《追寻一己之福-中国古代的信仰世界》,《法老的国度》,英文方面如Wine and Wine Offering in the Religion of Ancient Egypt, In Search of Personal Welfare-A View of Ancient Chinese Religion, Enemies of Civilization: Attitudes toward Foreigners in Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and China等等。他的近作,Daily Life in Ancient China, 将由剑桥大学出社。
